A stylist’s paradise

That’s where I’ve been! Right there, on a tiny street near the President’s residence in Seoul, I found paradise! Well, at least if you ask my stylist heart. The paradise calls itself Bell & Nouveau L’art Objet. Here you will find a mix of their own designs and many vintage designer items. The Korean K-popstars regularly visit the shop to borrow clothes and accessories from their showroom on the 1st floor.

To me, a picture say more than a thousand words, and it was against my will, when I had to realize that I would not be able to take everything home with me /: The thought alone, about all of the awesome extravagante and crazy photographs that could be created with these beautiful dresses and accessories! Oh dear! Well, if you are as crazy about this shop as I am, they do have a webshop with a small selection of their items here: http://www.bellnnouveau.com/

Art is Everywhere

On the street, at the coffee shop, at the tiny restaurant and many other places. While being in Korea I have visited many art museums with both ancient, modern and contemporary art, but the art that I find the most fascinating is the one you find in your everyday life. The way that art effects my mood is amazing! I find myself feeling so happy, when getting my hot drink in such a tiny cute cup with a sweet saying on it. Or when walking up the stairs at the subway station, I am met by pure love. Here is a small view of what I call art.

Northline boarders

When the trip goes to the boarder of North Korea, it is not a small thing, and it was with mixed emotions when I got on the tour bus this morning. We first drove to the “DMZ” which is the De-military zone in the north of South Korea/south of North Korea. This is like a gray area between then boarders. After a short visit to the POW bridge (Prisoner of War bridge in DMZ), where many thousands of prisoners where delivered, we drove further north, to the military zone. We had to show our passports to a south korean soldier.

Tunnelen lå 73 meter under jordens overflade og målte over 1 km. i sydlig retning.

—–

All the way up, the road was surrounded with barbed wire fence, carrying red signs. These indicated areas for potential landmines, and therefor it was not allowed to walk there. A very special feeling to be so close.

In 1978 South Korea discovered the 3rd tunnel, dug by North Korea during the war. The angel was pointed directly towards Seoul, which was the target of the attacks. The tunnel lays 73m. under ground surface and is more than 1km pointed south. We were in the tunnel, standing only 170m. from the North Korean boarder! What marks North Korea, is their mountains which hardly has any trees on them. The trees are taken down so the north korean soldiers can have a clear sight, in case of illegal invasion. Oppose to South Korea, where nature so beautifully has been preserved!

Symbolsk prøver man at skubbe Nord og Syd Korea sammen igen.

—–

It has been such an exciting day getting a lot of new knowledge on the history of Korea. It is absolutely horrible to know that one man in North Korea is controlling the destiny of two countries!

BONUS INFO: In South Korea, men serve military service for 2 years. In North Korea the military service lasts for 7! years. It looks like North Korea will remain a military country, unless someone does something.

Here is praying that one day, the many thousands of split families will be reunited.

Zen in the City

Korea is a very fascinating country. What makes the country so special is how they have somehow managed to preserve their history and traditions. We live in the very busy part of Seoul, Gangnam-gu, where businessmen work long hours and the everyone is in a rush. Right there in the middle, lays a beautiful and well preserved Temple, surrounded by skyscrapers and main roads. The temple is open to all and does not need guarding. Everyone deeply respects the religion, bowing for the Buddha sitting at the entrance, and the one on top of the temple. It is extremely interesting to observe all kinds of people, allowing themselves to experience Zen in suck modern and stressed times, as most of us live in today.

Below you will see a picture of my mother and me in the main temple, experiencing a very special calmness and safety in the house of Buddha.

Oh Seoul Tower

Beautiful Seoul has many things to offer. One of them is the Seoul Tower, which stands on top of the Namsan mountain in the heart of the big city. It was amazing to experience the beautiful walk up the mountainside ad the awesome  feeling of looking across the city from the top tower. Looking across a land which has skyscrapers, folk villages and mountains all in one.The tower was done in 1971, where it was used as observatory until 1980 where it was opened to the public. Today it is a large attraction for both natives and tourists. The tower measures 479.6m above water and thereby marks the highest point in Seoul.

Here I share with you a picture of the view from above and the korean take on the Locks of Love bridge, which greets you on the viewpoint at the bottom of the tower.

On the 8th of September this year, I packed my bags along with my parents to visit the beautiful land of Korea. The first couple of days were spent finding our way through the capital Seoul, where more than 10 million people live. Even though we had read that the koreans was suppose to be the most stressed people in the world, I was happy to discover the calmness, kindness and amazing care they show to us and one another. We stay in a gorgeous little hotel called Hotel Grammos in the Gangnam-gu area. This part of town is like Wallstreet, but is also the hometown of the famous singer who made Gangnam Style a smash hit. HAHA!

One of the first things that I noticed here, was their flair for very well spoken sayings. This city is filled with love and has everything you could ever want!

In conclusion, I will show you a very beautiful quote which is hanging outside our hotel room; The Romanticist

Sun !?

– Michelle Sun .

It would be quite hard to describe yourself in one word. Nevertheless, my middle name Sun, is a good one. In 2011 I took the name, after discovering new knowledge about my biological roots from South Korea. The word means “sun” as in many other languages and after taking the name, I have tried to live by the meaning of it. To me, bringing a light to my everyday is very important, but also to help other achieve the same light. I am a professional stylist and makeupartist. I am currently working at Lancôme in Magasin Du Nord in Copenhagen K. where I daily advise women about skincare and makeup. Other than that I enjoy doing freelance work as a stylist on photoshoots, musicvideos and short films. Through August-December 2014 I will be studying english, economics and psycology.

I look forward to sharing a lot of exciting experiences and thoughts with you all!

Love ..
